About electrical safety report (eicr)

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is an inspection and test of the fixed electrical wiring in a property, written up by a qualified electrician. Landlords of privately rented homes in England must have one at least every five years and give a copy to their tenants. Similar duties now apply in Wales and Northern Ireland, and Scotland has its own rules.

Getting signed off in England

In England, your council’s building control team or a registered building control approver checks the work. They issue a completion or final certificate once they have the reports they need, such as the as-built SAP, EPC, air test and any sound or ventilation test results.
